So yesterday I was talking to a good friend of mine, also doing pre-reqs. She's not in school this semester for a number of reasons. Basically, she has had a really rough year academically. She was counting up how many classes she has left to take and realized that if she doesn't have to repeat any courses and gets in on her first try (which is not very likely), she will be starting nursing school after I'm done. She was really upset about it.
I felt horrible!!!! Here I am, complaining about how much studying I have to do, when she doesn't even have the luxury of attending school right now! I just feel like I'm taking it for granted. I will be starting in Fall. She may not even be back in school by then.
I feel like it will be the same in nursing school. I will be so overwhelmed with the work that I won't remember how desperately I want to be there. Does anyone else have similar problems???
I'm glad this happened though, I have renewed enthusiasm for studying!

While it is sad that your friend is going through all she is with school, that is the reality of the road you are on. Nursing school is tough to get into. The reason for that is because you will be dealing with peoples lives when you are an RN and during nursing school.
You should be proud of yourself for studying hard and being on track. It takes a special person to endure what we all endure. Many many people cannot handle the course load. All the pre-reqs essentially weed out those that do not have the ability/drive that nursing takes.
Thankfully, I am about to begin my second semester of ns. I will tell you what I realized my first couple of days of ns. All my fellow students are just like me! It is strange but we all have the exact same qualities. We all are super organized, we all have some type of device to keep track of our schedules. We all study WAY too much.
My point is, nursing schools are looking for a certain type of person and if you can make it through all the pre-reqs and maintain a high gpa and jump through all the hoops of applying to a ns, you have the qualities they believe make a good nurse. I wish you and your friend the best of luck on your journeys, it is a tough road.
PS- I still get lost in all the studying and complaining about all I have to do but I am SO HAPPY to be in nursing school, I am sure you will be too!
