Got accepted into a program!

Yes!! Got accepted into the CNM program at Wayne State University in Detroit. During my L&D clinical in nursing school, I knew right away that I wanted to become a CNM. The CNM's on the unit discouraged me and told me I would never find a job unless they retire or die lol. I tried to find a job in L&D out of nursing school but they required one year of L&D experience. How are supposed to get that year experience if no one wants to hire you! So I took a job in the ER. I've been a nurse for 4 years now, I work in a Level 1 Trauma Center. I have great experience, do not regret my decision. I decided now is the time to move on, I applied. Recently found out I was accepted , and I start in the Fall. I am beyond excited, I believe this is my calling. Can't wait to share all my experiences as a midwife.

Congratulations! I, too, knew when I did my L&D clinical that I wanted to be a CNM. I hope to one day be in the position you are in! Good luck and enjoy!

:yeah:Congratulations, arabianeyez83!! :yeah:

I also wanted to get into L&D (or Mother-Baby) after graduation, but ran into the same situation as you......well except there actually WAS an L&D internship at one of the hospitals. I was selected to do the panel interview, but it was extremely competitive, and I was not one of the few that were chosen.

Some CNMs I met this past Sunday said that midwifery is truly is a calling. I feel called to it as well and am excited to join this wonderful profession one day. :)

Wish you guys the best and good luck!

Congratulations! I wonder if you could tell me more about Wayne State's program. I sent for information, but never received anything specific for the CNM program, just generic graduate stuff. I called, but could never get through to a live person. Also, Wayne States never showed up when I would search for accredited CNM programs. I don't live too far from Detroit, so I am very interested in this...do you have any helpful tips or info?

Hey, I would PM you but I guess I can't cuz I don't have 15 posts yet. WSU's CNM program is accredited. I actually just met with the advisor of the program she is soooo nice. I am actually doing the part time option , so it will take me 3 years. I can take 1 class a semester, more if I wanted. As far as clinical sites, they have contracts with DMC, Henry Ford, Oakwood, one in Toledo, I can't remember the rest. I asked her if I can pick my own preceptor, she said yes as long ad they know lke 3 months in advance so they can do the contract with the hospital and preceptor. If you can send me your email, I can email you what my schedualed will be like for the next 3 years. I can also give you the advisors email, I am sure she will answer all your questions, she answered all my questions. Hope this helped!

Yes, thankyou. I would love to have the advisor's email address. I will PM you my email....are you able to access this? If not let me know.

I got your message, I sent you an email. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Congrats! I had the same problem and I am in the Ann Arbor/Brighton area. I have applied to most openings and have never been contacted. I have been a nurse for two years and decided to apply to U of M's program just to see. The interview went well. The director didn't really ask any questions and made it more of a schedule advising sessions:) Just waiting to hear back from them officially :)
