Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

HI FRIENDS!!

Got accepted to a nursing program but one small problem..they may only offer a 430 to 930pm class and I don't have childcare as I'm a single mother..and daycares aren't open that late...WHAT DO I DO?? HOW can I let this opportunity slip through my hands after all my hardwork with pre-reqs and appy process...Any suggestions?? If anybody reads this..can they please give me advice or referral for babysitting in the Claremont/Upland area?!?!?!? Or just advice if maybe they were in this situation too...any suggestions would help..SOS

You could check your local yellow pages for a Childcare Resource and Refferal Center. There is one in my city that is government funded and they send you a packet with information and phone numbers of all registered/state liscensed daycare that is available in the timeslot you need.

Also, its worth mentioning the fact that if your a student and a single mommy (Ive been there!) then there is a chance you would qualify for some daycare assistance programs through the state. They pay 100% of a fellow students daycare costs, just because she meets the income guidlines and are pretty helpful in finding good daycares.

Another parameter that is worth investigating is seeing if your school has a grant or trust set aside to help students in need of childcare. I know at my school they have 2 different ones set aside. The first one is where you can apply for up to $300 per year (with no repayment) to use on anything as long as it is approved by the school board..Childcare, car repairs, bus passes, gas money, etc. The other one is a fund set up for low income families that meet an income guidline, and the school pays for 95% of your childcare.

I apologize if your not one of those sterotypical single moms that would qualify for assistance, I just thought it was worth bringing up. :wink2:

Do you have a YMCA, YWCA, or JCC near you? A lot of their childcare programs are open until Midnight.

Are you connected at all with a church or religious community? Sometimes they might be a resource for advice or people willing to help out. Sometimes a church with a youth pastor can give you some names from their youth they work with who could babysit...just looking at it from all angles...Good luck!!
