I dropped off my nursing application as soon as the application process started and I cant wait to find out if I have been accepted.
Who else out there has applied and what is your stats?
My advice ladies.......... Relax. Enjoy your life as you know it. Once that letter comes, you will be obsessing about why you didnt get in or what all to expect if you did get accepted.
I have had both of those feelings. Fall 2011, wasnt accepted. Spring 2012, accepted. I started this January.
When I waited for my first letter last spring, I thought I was a guaranteed shoe-in, but to my disappointment I wasnt. Not even wait listed. A close friend of mine was accepted and had much much lower scores and GPA than I did and had 3 prereq classes to still finish- I was so confused and still dont understand to this day.
I believe their decisions are based on the applicant as a whole. I think they look at past academic performance, current performance and just everything really.
If you do NOT get in this time, DO NOT feel like a failure. I repeat DO NOT FEEL LIKE A FAILURE! Make an appointment and talk to your advisor about what are some specific things you need to focus on- raising GPA, retaking tests/classes etc. Don't wallow in self pity and get depressed. Move on, spend time with your family, take classes that you need(you should already have backup plans A,B,C etc) and reapply for the next session.
If you DO get in, spend this summer enjoying you and your familys time. If you need to work, work as much as you can so you can take off or quit when you start the program. Really think about the time commitment and if you want to spend this much time away from your family and friends- especially if you have under 18 age children and especially if they do any extracurricular activities. There are so many people that want and deserve to get in but dont, and for someone to accept their spot and not think about how truly demanding this program is and drop out a few weeks in is really frustrating to see. If you choose to accept your seat, I recommend 2 major things to do if nothing else- 1- LEARN AND STUDY THE DOSAGE CALC!(They do NOT teach it to you, you must learn on your own outside of class BEFORE the semester even starts) 2- Volunteer at a hospital, nursing home, assisted living etc. if you havent worked in a NURSING field before. Its not all pretty scrubs and giving medications and the quicker you learn that now, the quicker you will know if this is truly a career you want. Better to figure it out now than half way through the program, or even 3 weeks in!
It's a lot to digest either way, but its not impossible! I love the faculty I have had so far and am really enjoying the program. I am meeting some wonderful people who Im sure will become life long friends. I've learned so much already so quickly that it is mind boggling- especially when there is so much more to go! This is a very intense demanding program, so just be prepared :)
Thank You for your advice! But you for gt about the gentlemen! lol... What you wrote just really helped me calm down a little bit more :)... I know if it's your time it's all up to God to let things happen then...I wish you much luck in finishing the program. I know how you felt when you first got your letter saying you didn't get in. I recently got one from MSC that said I didn't get in this time around and it's a hard pill to swallow but like you I just moved on working harder now in my studies an just trying to wait to find out about Gordon and just hoping and praying that it's my time now and God will grant me with the acceptance into the program. Thank you again and much luck and blessings to you in finishing out the program :)))))
Some of these threads on here make me so nervous and scared. Although nursing school is hard, I know it's not impossible because people have did it...are doing it.... I just hope that if I'm blessed to get in, I can be one of those who can say I've accomplished it too.
Thank you MK126995. That was very helpful!
Yea, I believe we're going to have to wait until the 30th too.
I actually went to the NAHS building today, and the lady who is responsible for mailing out the letters, L.B., wasn't even there and hasn't gave anyone any notification of when they actually will be mailed because the committee is not finished looking at applicants.
In addition to that, I don't know if anyone went to the workshop at Gordon, "So, you want to be a nurse? ...what's it really like", but those students were told that they're going to accept 120 students, and that they hated that they had to deny a lot of people because a lot of us were qualified....
Did anyone go to that workshop to know if that's actually true or not?
