Good UC or CSU for pre nursing major?

Published

So I go to UC Santa Cruz currently. And I am a psychology major. The psycology program here is so impacted though it is nearly impossible to get into any classes. I originally wanted to be a pre nursing major but Santa Cruz does not offer it. I am interested in transffering to a different college. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Raquel

Hi! I went to UCSC too but just my first semester freshman year :) Definitely don't make your choice based on which colleges have a "pre-nursing" major. All you have to do is take the prereqs, which you can do pretty much anywhere. Chem, anatomy, physio, microbiology... etc. Most are very basic classes you could take at any csu or uc. And you could do a bio or chem major... I was a business major and got in all my nursing prereqs so you can pretty much do any major and take them as electives. Even if you found a prenursing major you would really limit your options. If I were you, I would find the nursing school you want to go to first, and find out the prerequisites and then just make sure wherever you decide to go offers them.

I finished my prereqs at CSU Stanislaus which has a great nursing program apparently.. but its in Turlock lol. I also hear CSU San Fran has a good program. UCs take like 90% of transfers from junior colleges so its hard to get in from another UC. I think that is BS personally but its still worth a try. :)

Thank you so much!!! That was really helpful. My hometown is Sonora which is only like 45 minutes from Turlock. So that is a really good option. Thank you!

Haha what?! I"m from Oakdale! In fact the one prereq I didn't take at Stan was microbiology so I am finishing it at Columbia college in Sonora right now. What a SMALL world! lol

That is how I ended up at Stan was by moving back home and to be totally honest I DON'T recommend it. Don't know your situation but if I could do it over again I would stay at UCSC no matter how bad it was. Or transfer to anywhere else!

Any public school in CA is going to be very impacted, classes at Stan definitely are. Is that the only reason you want to transfer?

Moved to CA Nursing Programs forum.

I am currently a first semester nursing student at CSU Stanislaus and so far it is a really good program
