good school district in Atlanta area?

U.S.A. Georgia

Hi Everyone-

I live in Ohio and might be re-locating to Atlanta area this summer. I am looking for a place to live that has an excellent school district for my soon-to-be high-schooler. Can anyone give me some advice? Also-what are the best hospitals to work for ICU? Is anyone from Athens GA? I heard this is a good place to live.

Im in the same position as you. I have a son starting high school next year. We have plans to move to the Stone Mountain area. If you hear of anything will you please pass on the information to me. I am currently a graduate PN soon to take my NCLEX no later than January. Thanx.

Gwinnett County is known to have fantastic schools. Athens is a good city in which to live, but their schools are not considered the best around.

If you are moving to the Stone Mountain area - be sure to try to get into Gwinnett (Dekalb schools are not that great). Parkview and Brookwood districts are the ones that EVERYONE tries to move to when they live around there. Forsyth County schools are also good. You can go to the Georgia Public Policy Website (I believe its http://www.gppf.org) and view the Georgia schools report card. It gives you all of the test scores and the state rankings of all of the public schools. Good luck with your move - I really think you will like the Atlanta area! :)

I live Stone Mountain and I am quite satisfied with my kids' education so far. PM if you have any questions about specific schools. Fayette has the best schools.

Sorry - I didn't mean to insult - I should have said SOME Dekalb schools are not so great!!:selfbonk: When I moved to the Atlanta area I just found out the hard way about the differences in school districts! The website is a great resource to help give an idea of what you are in for!

Oh yes, I know you weren't trying to insult. Some of them are bad, but there are some good ones also. We've done pretty well so far.

Hi,

If you are looking for the best public schools in the area move to east cobb. That is what we did and we love it. It is a very nice suburb area. Most of the moms stay home and are really involved in PTAs and schools.

Good luck!

Hi! My husband and I just moved to Alpharetta to be in the Milton HS district. It is a wonderful school. East Cobb has some excellent ones too. Here is a good resource to look up average SAT scores, teacher-student ratios and tons of other good stuff. Search by area, then by high school. Each one has a full report!
