Good Samaritan New Grad StaRN program San Jose, CA

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me more about the Good Samaritan StaRN program? I want to know how much they pay during the initial 13 weeks/training? I also understand a 2 year commitment is required following the program, does anyone know how much a nurse starts out at after completing the program?

I heard that during the first 13 weeks you make somewhere around $30/hour and I think it goes up to $50+ afterwards. Did you apply to the cohort that starts in April?

It's just under $32/hr during the training period (13-16 weeks), and then you start at the hospital's pay rate of $50.40 afterwards. There is a 2-yr contract that begins after training ends. I just interviewed (before you ask, I totally bombed it, so there's one less person in the running, lol), and although I did get the rundown of the program, I wasn't specifically told anything about whether or not it would be possible to switch units during the 2 years. I've read conflicting things here on AN about that, but I imagine it's at each hospital's discretion to allow unit hopping or not.

I spoke with another person interviewing, and was told that she considered the pay incredibly low for the area, and that she was already making almost the same as an LVN, so that's something to consider, if pay is your biggest concern.

I also applied for the spring cohort and received a call today, but the voice mail malfunctioned and I ended with a corrupted voice mail =( When I called back it was the main operator(?) number and they had no idea who to trace it to...

@spaghetina Did you receive an email notifying you of an opportunity to interview? Were you interviewed by a panel or by an individual manager?

Really hoping I didn't lose out on a chance for an interview- any information you can provide would really help- thanks!

Edit: Whew! Worked some google magic and somehow got it to work haha. I was told it was a panel interview so here goes.

I'd like to learn more about this program but I can't find any trace of it on their website. Do you think it's because a cohort is just starting and they're not accepting applications for the next yet? Anyone know how often they accept applications?

hey I just interviewed for this years go around. Did any of you guys end up taking a position? Im just looking for more info thanks ?
