Good resources for new resume

I have been an LPN for 14 years. I am in my last 5 weeks of my RN program. I need to create a new resume and start applying for jobs soon. Any recommendations? I started one, but it is becoming lengthy. I have worked mainly specialty areas and I have a lot of great skills. How do I create a decent resume that highlights my assets without making it too long?

If you are applying for RN jobs, your resume will (can) be no longer than any other new grad's. People who are hiring RNs aren't hiring LPNs and may have second thoughts about you if you want to put much of your LPN experience front-and-center, having seen many LPNs who get the new credential but don't always completely make the professional leap. (Don't shoot the messenger-- we've all seen it many times).

IMHO, you would mention (not list exhaustively) the settings in which you have previous experience as an LPN as part of your cover letter.

Then you say something like how you look forward to building on your previous education background in X, Y, and Z as you transition to RN level of practice.

Ask some of your colleagues from your past to help with reference letters, being sure they emphasize your RN-transferrable skills-- work ethic, timeliness, good documentation, compliments from patients, enquiring mind, etc.

Thank you for the suggestions. I agree with what you said. I find myself getting stuck on my experience as an LPN. I am willing and ready to build on my skills as an RN.
