I am a critical care nurse on a step down unit wanting to get pertinent ICU experience. I keep getting promised transfers that never seem to happen in my current position and am thinking of trying a different hospital. Can anyone recommend any good teaching hospitals in NY/NJ where I could gain great ICU experience before applying to anesthetist programs?
Thanks for any info.

I'm sure there are a ton but I've heard great things about Colombia Pres. My boss was a director there for a few years and says it is a great learning facility.

Started my career at NYU. Huge teaching ICU with a wide variety of patients.
The pay was excellent but you work like a dog on a rather unattractive unit.
Colombia Pres., and Cornell both in NYC also excellent. The question is whether you live in the city or even want to commute. UR

Stony Brook on Long Island is excellent, for another choice.
:) If you are offered a choice of units go for either CVICU, or a Trauma ICU.
Good luck....................
