Hi I was just wondering if when you are interviewing at a hospital do they want you to have good credit or do they not want to hire someone who has bad credit. Anyone have experience with this? Isnt that why someone want to get a job to pay they credit off after years of school? Anyone been turned down because of bad credit?

I know my sister applied at a bank and they turned her down because of her bad credit.

Hi, first time to post.. but wanted to ask a question on this subject.

Do hospitals check credit reports just to see if you have gone to collections on paying medical bills? And if so would that be a good reason Not to hire somebody?

I have okay credit.. and always pay my bills, but I do have a ding or two from past medical bills that HAVE BEEN PAID (but went to collections because of VERY bad marital situation), but you know credit breaus, it takes YEARS to get something off your report.

So when I graduate and start the job search, is this going to be a problem? And if it is what can or should I do about it???

Never thought about this before, but now I am really concerned about it.... ahhhhhgggggg

I wonder do hositals turn down because of bad credit?

I believe the thinking with nursing along with law enforcement is that if you have bad credit you might be more likely to divert drugs or 'be on the take' to get yourself outta hock.

What if you have bills at the hospital you apply at? EEK!

That is my main concern!!!!???? Anybody out there have dealt with a similar situation or know anything about the common hospital practice in dealing with hiring people that have bad credit due to late hospital bill payments??

I think some hospitals do use credit report against you in thier hiring practice. When the hospital I worked at for 14 years closed, I applied to 2 other community hospitals. One led me to believe that I had a job and when I called to give them my license number they told me I wasn't hired. The other one gave me no reason at all.

The one thing was that my credit STUNK at the time.

I was unable to find out from either institution why I was not hired. :p

The hospital I work for sent me to collections for a bill that was about $50. Innocent on my part, I just forgot. Money is money, I guess.

I don't know for sure, but on my old unit there was nurse with horrible credit. Horrible from what she says...and the way she talked about paying her bills...I believe it. And she had no problem getting that job. Maybe it varies from place to place.
