Gonzaga FNP

Nursing Students NP Students

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

I am intrested in the FNP program at Gonzaga that will start in Fall 2015. I am graduating with my BSN from the University of Washington in a month and plan to use the next year to prepare. I have one year of nursing home experience as an RN and NAC and one year of Cardiac-Telemetry experience. I have also been volunteering on-call at a free clinic for the last 3 years and plan on doing that more frequently during the next year since I will not be a student. My goal is to work family practice as an FNP, which has always been my goal (since I was 16). I very badly want to go to Gonzaga for a number of reasons and have some questions for those recently accepted or graduated from that program.

-How competative are the admissions? Acceptance rate?

-Did you work? If so, how many hours?

-Do you like the program?

-What is the job market like after?

-How much experience did you have as an RN prior to acceptance? Did that affect your admission?

-Did you have an ADN or BSN prior?

Thanks so much for the help! ?

Hello,

I am only on my second semester but will try to answer these for you.

-How competative are the admissions? Acceptance rates

No idea. You could call admissions and ask them, they are very responsive to questions and helpful.

-Did you work? If so, how many hours?

Currently work FT 3 12's night shift and am managing it really well. I get the feeling that once the clinical portion starts I will need to drop to 2 12's.

-Do you like the program?

So far so good. I am in my third class. Well organized and really responsive preceptors. Classmates from all different backgrounds and areas of the US. Ive had zero issues so far.

-What is the job market like after?

I feel like this depends more on where you live and where you are trying to work. However I am a member of several online NP forums and it looks like most people have several job options within a few months of graduating.

-How much experience did you have as an RN prior to acceptance? Did that affect your admission?

I had 1.5 years acute care experience. Most schools I looked at required 0-1 years of experience.

-Did you have an ADN or BSN prior?

Yes, BSN

Good luck!

Thank you!

I have been talking with admissions and feel a lot more confident now. I work 3 12s currently and have my BSN as well. Admissions sounded really supportive and said that it is designed for those working full time but from what I could get from other posts on this website the clinicals might make it too hard. That is my concern now as well.

Thanks for your info! Good luck! :)

Junebug0710 would you mind adding extra on Facebook so I could ask you a few questions? My name is Deedra Frederick and I am starting With the March group. Thanks!

I am a current UW BSN student as well, and am thinking about applying to the DNP-FNP program as well for fall 2016. How are you liking the program? What are the pros and cons? My top concern is the quality of online education, as well as finding good preceptors. What has it been like for you?
