I just landed a position as a Nurse Extern on a MedSurg/Pulmonary/General floor. I am w/i 6 mos of graduating from an ADN program. My skills experience has been very minimal throughout school. I picked Med Surg not necessarily because I see myself going into that field after graduation but for the skills experience and prioritization I think MedSurg will give me.
That said, I am VERY nervous. I plan to read up again on my skills and academics but anything else I need to know?
I can't wait to see how these nurses prioritize and what I will see on this floor. So far, I have only seen OB, Oncology, and Tele.
Thanks!

If a nurse offers to let you assist in or observe a new procedure, run for it! If the nurse seems like the type who enjoys teaching, ask lots of questions :)
