How many of you went from LTC to the hospital and was the transition bad? I have worked LTC for 5 years and would like to go to the hospital, but to be honest it scares me. I did go to the hospital and worked the med-surg unit for 3 months, but could not stay on nights b/c of the kids at home alone. I know the hospital has day shift positions, but I don't know how it would be or what the pay cut would be. Any suggestions??

I did it, I would say, go for it! You'll do fine. For me the transition was fine. There were some nervous moments of course, such is life.

I did it and I'm so much happier at the hospital.

I don't transition easily though, so I didn't really feel comfortable with the change for about a year. But that's just me.

You'll probably do just fine. Get in, do your job the best you can, be open to learning, and make improvements as you go along, just like any other area.

What surprised me was that I could make a connection with patients who I'd only cared for a couple of times, so it's not like you'll lose the ability to be close to your patients, either.

Let us know how you're doing, ok? We'll be happy to help you adjust.

I think I will put my resume out there and hopefully I will feel confident enough to make the change, I believe LTC just burns you out after too long. Thanks for your responses!
