I will be starting a nursing refresher class after being out of the profession (but not far away from it) for many years. I am a bit anxious about this. I am also looking at RN to BSN programs and wanting to move up - possibly to Nursing Education. Is there anyone with advise and information about all this?

Hi ba,
I was on a 10 year hiatus from nursing practice. To return, I contacted my state board who provided me with the names of approved refresher courses. I enrolled in one and the didactic portion was all on-line (over a 4 month period). I also attended 2 skills days. Then I completed 84 hours of clinical work in a state board approved hospital. All in all it was a worthwhile experience. Thank God, anatomy and physiology has not changed. The biggest challenge is learning all the new meds, equipment and most of all electronic charting. All the nurses and staff have been most encouraging re: my return to nursing. Good luck!
Thanks bunches. That is what I am doing. Seems like quite a mountain to climb.
