hi everyone, im a new fish in this forum, glad to know and share lots of idea n experiences to everyone of you. I am currently studying in College of San Mateo, North California, and about to transfer in next fall 2015 after finishing all of prerequisites. My concern is that i actually do not know where to transfer because most of the universities in Nor Cal is always competitive. On the other hand, does it work if i apply to my Com College nursing program where im studing just for RN? because i heard that the program in my school is good too? im looking forward to the response so that i could decide my future pathway. Thank you so much and have a good one.

I don't know if its just my CSU or all, but for sure at mine in socal they judge your entire GPA. Since you live in CA I would strongly urge you to attend a BSN program. The unfortunate reality in this state is there are tons of new grads and the vast majority of the time they will pick a BSN new grad over a ADN, because they can. Its sad, I think its stupid (and I say that because I think nurses are more than the degree behind their name) but its already the reality here. I think that is something to consider.
What schools are you thinking of going too? Are you willing to move?
Dear Nienna celbrindal,
First off, thank you so much for devoting your time reading my post and answering it. yeah, im willing to move if i get accepted. Right now, im thinking about apply to San Jose State University because my friend told me it was a good school for nursing. but the thing is that the program is always packed cause of thousands of people apply every year. Is it possible if you share with me any schools that are not too hard to apply? Thank you so much and have a great one.
sincerely yours,

Hi I am also in California i have been advised to apply to as many programs as i can. I live in so cal and its completely normal here to apply to 10 or more programs if you are able to. My current roommate applied to almost every UC and CSU in the state that has a bsn program. She has all A in prereq and an overall 3.8. My roommie has great stats she sent out 15 applications 2 accepted 3 alts. The places she was accepted sucked Bakersfield, and Fresno she was sooo bummed. She was wait listed for UCLA she ended up getting in very late she had already started to prep to move.
If you can get in to a BSN program thats the best way to go. If you have to ADN do it but understand that you will have a tough time finding a job in the larger Metro areas.
I forgot if you want a cal state you can search which campuses offer BSN program thru The California State University | Working for California it list all the schools. I assume that UC has sorta the same. Apply as many places as possible

I heard CSU's are very competitive .. I'm gonna apply to all CSU's and apply to my community college nursing program... my first choices are CSUCI & CSULA & CSUSB .. Bakersfield is not my top choice but if I get accepted I'm gonna have to say yes just because CSU's nursing programs are very competitive ... i would say have a back up plan just in case you don't get accepted to csu .. my plan b is to apply to the nursing program at ventura college

Go for the BSN if you have the prereqs already filled. Not sure what schools in Cal would be good, consider the costs of different schools, as well as competition. Either way, best of luck and don't be afraid of the competition. Be proactive. Maybe you can help with my problem?

Well, its really my pleasure to have read all the comments above. my deepest appreciation to every single one of you who had spent your precious time to read my concern and also left a comment below so i could consider it for my future. Actually right now im really confused about my future where im studying since i have only 2 semesters left at my community college. I think UC system is too much for me because of the expensive tuition fees. So, the best way for me in order to keep up my dream of becoming a future nurse is to apply to all CSUs; other than that, i might apply to some schools out states if it works. like some of you said, i need to have some back up plans for the worst situation. Thank you so much for all the advice guys. i mean it really helps a lot.

Apply to each and every one of the CSUs. That's atleast 10 right there. All of them are competitive with high pass rates. Maybe you need to research more objective information instead of what you hear from your friends too. Also, there are only a handful of UCs that offer nursing BSN which include UCLA ICI and I think UCD sometime soon in the future if it's not already ready. UC requirements however, are different prerequisites with a heavier science core.
