GN getting ready to take NCLEX

Published

I am a GN getting ready to take boards on June 27th. I need some help with understanding ventilators (high pressure alarm, low pressure alarm, PEEP) and want to do in those situations. I also want to know what a good quiz score is on all the study material I have been using. I have been studying and taking quizs from Lippincotts, Kaplan, Saunders and some others. But sometimes I get in the 60's and 70's. What is an acceptable score on those?

Thank you

Hi! I'm taking NCLEX July 1 and am also using the same review books as you. I heard from numerous people on this web site that if you score in the high 60s to 70s that it is acceptable. I heard also that some of the review questions are harder than the actual NCLEX. For instance someone who took NCLEX said that about the Kaplan review questions. Hope this helps!

Hi! I just took the NCLEX and passed with 75 questions. :) A lot of the questions were almost identical to Kaplan's review questions. Kaplan's tests, were, in my opinion, hard. You feel like you're doing well and come out with a score of 60!! I think their scoring is just hard. But definitely, i think that as long as you are taking the tests, answering the questions, and then looking at the rationale afterwards, you will be fine!! I know after taking Kaplans review tests, I was so scared!!! Before that, I thought I was doing well. Kinda hurt the self-confidence I guess. But I will say that a lot of questions were very similar. I had lots of priority questions...which patient would you see first, or call first, some disaster responses. Look over herbal remedies also. I think you will do great!!

Darn it!! I took the Sylvia Rayfield review and I am wracking my brain to remember......I know she said High = Dry and Low = something else but I cannot remember what..... :angryfire Basically she said if the alarm on the vent is "High" the line is "Dry" somewhere meaning you need to look for some form of blockage etc. I just do not remember what Low stood for...I have already loaned my books out otherwise I would look it up for you! Good luck on the test.... :)

Here's a tutorial with a lot of good info. http://www.ccmtutorials.com/rs/index.htm I used it when I was in critical care clinical and had a vent pt. Also, the respiratory review on the saunders cd has a lot of ventilatory ques.

I have been taking Saunders, Mosby's, Lippencott, and score in the 60-70-and 80 range....I still feel incomplete and completely nervous...I wish I had someone to study with.....all my class mates went different ways.............on well I have a week to prepare...I take mine the 19th

:uhoh3: well I wish everyone alot of luck...............gotta get back to studying those lovely NCLEX books..........have a goodone............ :p
