Give it to me hard! -

A bit about me - 30.yo, Bachelor's of Business Adminsitration. No science courses. My Undergrad GPA is 2.59.

I really, REALLY woud like to become a nurse and now in the process or researching all nursing programs in NYC. From what I have read for the past few days -my GPA is too low to be accepted.

Am I right or wrong?

Do you think if I A's my pre-reqs I have a chance to get in?

Which school would you suggest to apply to?

Do I stand a chance being accepted into accelerated program?

Be brutally honest, as this will only help. May be I should just forget about nursing :(

I can only speak about the two programs with which I'm familiar here in my little area of California but these accelerated programs are VERY competitive. With straight A's in your prerequisites, you might have a chance but they have an enormous applicant pool so you better be thinking about what you bring to the table besides grades.

I'm not knocking accelerated programs, but I do know as a preceptor how much more assistance the new grads require compared to the non-accelerated programs.

Not all accelerated programs are the same, nor are all traditional programs for that matter. My accelerated program had amazing clinical opportunities in both quantity and quality. I worked with many traditional grads in my 20+ years who only had med/surg and were told "you'll get the rest on the job". I had no problems acclimating to real world nursing.

It does bear stating though that anyone looking at nursing school should ask a lot of questions about clinical time and variety.
