Getting Started-Please Help

:o I am 22 yrs old and have always wanted to pursue a career in the nursing field. My husband and I are moving to Colorado Springs in the Spring. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to how to get my CNA, to start out, in the Springs. Back home you can just take like a 2 month course and thats it... Not sure how it is else where and I have no friends in the field to guide me. So, Just starting out, can anyone tell me where to start, where I can go take my classes in Colorado Springs? Any info will be greatly appreciated!!

I'm sorry, I'm not in the CS area, so I don't know for sure. I would suggest maybe contacting the local college/hospital and see if they can lead you in the right direction. Also, if you are interested in a career in nursing, apply right away because the wait-list can be quite lengthy in some areas. You can begin to take pre-reqs while you are on the wait-list. All of the Colorado colleges that I know of have a general nursing application at http://www.cccs.edu so I would go check that out as well and get your name on the list if you think you would like to become a LPN/RN. Then contact the college(s) you are chosing and find out what pre-reqs they require and get started on those. ;)

Hopefully someone in the Springs area will be able to give you more definite information for that area.

Thank You! I have found a CNA course in the springs called "Front Range Nurses Aid Training." Its 4 weeks and $550 and says it is the best program in the area to prepare you for your cna ceritificate in Colorado. So Im thinking of going there. Does anyone know or heard of this program?

I haven't heard of that one. You should check with a few nursing homes and local hospitals first though. Sometimes the hospitals/nursing homes will pay for your CNA classes if you agree to work there for a certain amount of time.

I definitely suggest becoming a CNA and working at a local hospital first. Most hospitals will reimburse you for tuition to become an RN. While you are a CNA you can work on taking your pre-requisites for nursing school. I don't think the CU Bethel Nursing school has a wait-list, but it is more expensive than community college programs.

How do you go about checking with the local hospitals to see if they will pay for the CNA classes? Just wondering since when the hospitals list an open CNA job they want you to already be a CNA and I am thinking bout becoming a CNA while I'm on the wait list and in nursing school so any information you could provide about contacting the hospitals/nursing homes would be great and saving money is a plus!
