Getting ready to begin my adventure!

Specialties Correctional

Published

ok! i just finished my institutional training and will start my ojt on monday within the facility. i have spent a couple days "inside", so i know how everything looks and i have an idea of how an "uneventful" day goes in medical... past the point of being all  !!! lmao

but. just wondering if anyone can give me pointers on being a corrections nurse.

we have separate medical and mental health treatment areas. there is also a sex offender treatment program at the facility i am working at... it is a medium security, level 2-4 offenders...

i'm really excited! i really enjoy the fast pace and high level of thought that goes into emergency situations!!! :heartbeat

i must be an adrenaline junkie!!!

i hope i like it as much as i think i will!

ive been contemplating applying to a state corrections setting that houses sexual offenders. can you tell me your experiences there and what a typical day for u is like? Do u feel safe?

I think when it comes to safety, regardless of the type of inmates you are caring for, all correctional nurses would agree that you have to always be watching your surroundings and never trust anyone. I never go places when there is not officer presence and I don't even trust the inmates that are "trustees". For me the biggest change in corrections is that you have to constantly be covering yourself and thinking about how actions/words can be misconstrued so that you can keep your job protected. Inmates are manipulative and if you give one of them special treatment all of them will expect it.
