Getting Nervous!!

Published

Hi there!

I am a senior at an Oregon high school, graduating this June!! I am planning to attend Regis University this fall as a pre-nursing student. I qualified to be in their seamless progression program, which basically means as long as I get a C or better in all my pre-req classes I do not have to fill out a separate application for the School of Nursing. I understand that this is a great program, however I'm getting nervous about not making the grades. I have done well in high school and have a 3.7 GPA, I have taken 4 years or English, Math, and History and 3 years of science, which included Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy and Physiology. But I'm so nervous for college!! I am taking writing analytically, psychology, intro to stats, philosophical explorations, and chem for health related sci lecture/lab. I am most worried about the Chem part of all of it and not having the time to get the work done. My goal is to become an NNP, so I need to do well in all my courses. If you have any information or tips that would help as I go through school it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time!

Congratulations on being accepted to Regis - They have a very strong program and other than the 'blip' for 2013, their NCLEX pass rates have been great.

I'm sure you already have a good idea about this, but nursing students are a bit different than other college students. You'll be able to see the difference yourself -- just look around the library on Friday or Saturday night. The people you see will most likely be your colleagues - LOL. In order to be successful, nursing students have to engage in a much different 'college experience'... one that doesn't include keggers and other social scenes because you can't do that and maintain the required GPA.

You'll be fine. You're used to challenging yourself academically. Keep up the good work & embrace your nerdiness.

I think you've got a great educational foundation from your high school courses. Just don't overload your schedule in college. Time management is important--make your schooling top priority and don't be afraid to form a study group/ask questions!
