Getting a job at California

Published

Hello guys! I am getting my ADN now in Texas, and soon becoming a nurse extern starting this June. I will be finishing school and take NCLEX in a year. Thinking about moving to California so I can be closer to my folks. Is it hard to find a job there as a new graduate only with ADN? I will definitely pursue my BSN right after I pass NCELX. Advice please?? Thanks in advance!:-)

Might not want to come to California as a new grad. It is wicked tough....and has been for several years. (Unless you know somebody who gives you an offer!) Do some research and make your decision.

I second that. It's not a guarantee that you won't get a job, but unless you have connections, the odds are heavily against you as a new grad (especially without a BSN) in California--southern California at least. Even travel nursing agencies require 1-2 years experience now.

I'm a new grad with a ADN and am having a difficult time finding a job. I moved here from NY a year ago and wished I had waiting until I had some experience before moving. I'm currently volunteering in a hospital to try and gain some contacts to get an "in". It's a shame but it really does seem like you have to know someone to get anywhere these days. Also, it seems most hospitals here want you to go through there New-Grad programs first and most of them only offer this 2x a year. On top of that, only a small number will even take an ADN application. And then the apps that say BSN preferred - but not required, probably still take BSN over ADN. I'm trying not to give up, I am also planning on going back for my BSN, just wanted to start working first so I could pay for it!
