Studying shouldn't be a word that you run away from when there is a test that is coming up the next week. Turn studying into learning. Focus always keep the goal of doing the best everyday.
Nursing is the coolest profession I have ever come across. As a nursing student myself I have realized that it takes a tremendous amount of studying in and outside of the classroom. Most important of all you shouldn't run away from the term study. Studying is a good thing. Usually when we hear the term study we freak out and get nervous because we think we could have studied more for the test we are about to take in a couple of hours. In my personal opinion instead of calling it studying call it learning. Why you should call it learning is because this is what you need to be doing everytime you open your textbook to the time you get into clinicals.
Nursing is a profession where you can't stop learning because if you do the patient will die. Your life is centered on learning the best nursing practices and care that you can give to your patient. Remember there are no shortcuts to studying the only thing that really matters is not how much time you study, but the time it takes for you to get your mind in the zone. The zone is a sweet spot where your mind is completely focused on one task and that is to learn the material. What I do is put some calm music on (this helps me make learning more interesting in the fact that you can cancel out the noise around you) and learn. Your job as a nurse is to learn! NOT to just study for the short term. Call it learning the next time your friend says he has to study. Learn it to know it and focus.
Remember it can be done and you can push the extra mile.
The most important thing is to give it your all every single day! Even if I miss a test or quiz question or even do poorly on a clinical I will do constructive criticism and say to myself, "did I do my very best today?" If the answer is no then that is where I failed. It is not the grade it is the preparation before you hit the books, before you wake up, before the clinical starts. Good luck to all the nurses out there! Pass those exams, clinicals, NCLEX, etc. The preparation is before...not after or even during the exam. You have to say to yourself I want to learn this. I want to know this! Because your decisions affect the outcome of your patient that is entrusted into you. Be the best nurse you can possibly be inside and outside the classroom, hospital, etc. These are my best tips! Good luck to you all!
