Geriatric Nurse Practioners

Does anyone out there practice as a NP in Geriatrics in the upstate NY area? I am interested in knowing if it is possible to develop an independent practice in that area. I know there must be a need. I finish my MSN this year and am thinking of also attaining the NP as an additional facet of education. However, I don't want to work for someone. I would prefer to work independently perhaps developing a base of nursing homes or patients living at home to follow or facilitate the care of. Maybe none of this is even feasible from the standpoint of earning a living.

I would be interested in hearing from Geriatric NP's.
