Hi,
Can someone please clarify for me if the nursing program with Georgia Perimeter College demands that you attend 2 campuses to complete the program? I have been told that coures are offered at both the Clarkston and Dunwoody campus and that you have to attend both in order to graduate? Doesn't the Clarkston campus offer everything you need to graduate? It would be hard to go between both of them due to the distance and traffic. I want to live close to the campus where I will attend and it would be hard to do that if I have to go to both campuses. Thanks!

I thought that the dunwoody campus was only for the lpn- rn bridge course. If you find out for sure let me know, I live near the clarkston campus and I take marta so that'll be hard.
I will definitely post whatever I find out. I bet you are right that Dunwoody is for the LPN bridge. You hear all kinds of things so I want to be sure before signing up and then find out there is going to be alot of commuting.
Does Marta go to the college? I was not aware of that. Also, do you find the area around the college safe? It is hard to tell from what I read on the internet. I can not imagine that the area around the college is unsafe. That would not be good for the school. Definitely want to move close to school so less time is spend commuting and more time spent studying!
Yes marta goes to both but its a longer ride to dunwoody depending on where you live. I live next to a train station and if you take the bus to the clarkston campus I suggest you take the 121 from kensington station because in the morning it runs every 10min and in the afternoon every 20 min. To me the area is safe there's a lot of traffic but there isn't a lot of people walking around and the front of the college is next to a quiet area.
I really need to find out about this having to go to both campuses before I can decide anything. I am understanding that the simulation lab is in Dunwoody and that you may have to attend Dunwoody for some of the nursing classes. Have you been told this or do you know anyone who has graduated from GPC and if they had to attend both campuses?
Glad to hear MARTA is available and that the area seems safe to live in.
I have a definite answer from the Dean herself. I am told that there is NO guarantee that a student will attend just one campus. Due to growth it may be necessary to attend both campuses to accommodate the number of students enrolled. So there you have it.....so I guess the best bet is to live halfway between Clarkston and Dunwoody.
Well that kind of sucks, hopefully I won't to do too much traveling between the two. Did you already take your prequisites? Thanks for the info.

The nursing school just expanded this fall and 2nd year students are split up on either the Clarkston, Dunwoody or the Lawrenceville campus and the courses are rotated. The final semester remains to be seen. You can go to the website www.gpc.edu and go to the nursing home page and read the FAQ and it will answer many of your questions. Good luck.
What happend if you can't get to one of the campuses, I know the lawrenceville campus doesn't have any public transportation that goes to it.
They do ask you which campus you live closest to and the Lawrenceville campus is going to be phased out I believe at the end of 2009. Regardless of which campus you are attending you will have to do 1-day of the similation lab per semester which is at the Dunwoody campus. Also this is the first semester 2nd year students have had classes at Dunwoody-this is a new concept they have mapped out. The jury is still out:no:

I just graduated in May; started the program in Aug. 2006. I was considered a "Lawrenceville student". For the most part we didn't travel to other campuses in the first year. Maybe 5-6 trips to Clarkston total. The second year was different. The first 2 or 3 weeks of the second year we were in Clarkston everyday, all day. It was hard! We made other trips down there and also to Dunwoody (where the new simulation lab is). I would imagine as time goes by and the GPC nursing program is no longer being held in Lawrenceville, there will be different schedules and coordinating as to who goes where and when, but don't expect and answer to "why"! And yes, the LPN program used to be all that was on the Dunwoody campus, but I would gather that would expand to all nursing students as time goes on. They have spent and great deal of money there improving the lab and obtaining lots of new equipment through grants for the simulation lab.
Hope this helps someone out. If you have more questions, PM me.

I am currently in the 3rd semester at GPC. I think someone mentioned before that 3rd semester is divided into 3 five week classes. Each of these 5 weeks requires 4 days of clinical at a local hospital, and 1 day at Dunwoody.
First and second semester, you attend classes at either Clarkston or Lawrenceville, with one day at Dunwoody and more days of clincial. The clinical days tapers off the farther along in the program you are.
I would say don't stress about getting transportation to Dunwoody because you'll probably make friends in school that you can carpool with. I know many people that do this.
If you did get picked for the Dunwoody campus, you'd know before school started and could possibly talk with Administration if you had severe transportation problems.
Clinicals at the hospitals aren't assigned until the class begins, and many of us don't know which hospital until a week or two before we're scheduled to have them. So, there's not much preplanning you could do with public transportation for that. But again, hopefully you could carpool with someone.
Good luck!
