University of West GA 2013

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hi, I was hoping to see if there was anyone here who isapplying to UWG for 2013? I have just submitted my application. What do youthink of their new requirements?

Well I know they won't look past them, lol, but see that I have more A's and B's

@mytwoboysmom so instead of TEAS test now we have to do a eassay writting?I think I will do much better with writting than taking a test that does not determine whether you will be a great nurse. I think more schools should do away with this TEAS test. It's so stressful to study, study for finals, and other factors. So your also saying they compare all the grades?or?

Jonesel,

I copied this from their website; I have everything compleated except My CNA (Which I will start in January), Micro, World History and Pol Science.

a. Program GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale. This GPA is calculated using ALL completed core coursewort applicable to a bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at UWG. If any of the Applicable courses have been repeated ALL attempts are included in this calculation.

b. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 36 semester hours of core to be considered after February 1, and should include.

ENGL 1101 & 1102

MATH 1111-Coll Algebra, OR 1001-Quant. Skills, OR 1113-PreCalc, OR 1634-Calc AND 2063-

Statistics

At least 3 of the 5 lab science courses required for a BSN at UWG from: A Principles of Biology

or Survey/Principles of Chemistry sequence (2 courses), Human Anatomy & Physiology 1, Human

Anatomy & Physiology 2, and Microbiology

12 semester hours of equivalent electives (communication, humanities, etc), history or additional

science

*Note that a BSN at UWG requires 60 semester hours of core curriculum; see UWG Undergraduate

Catalog or consult a School of Nursing Advisor for detail.*

c. CNA certification before registration for nursing classes (June)

It still say 3 out of the 5 sciences...

So confusing! It says All at first then goes into 3 out of the 5 sciences...

yes, you still have to have 3 of your 5 sciences done to apply. The difference is last year they had what was called a program GPA where they only counted your highest Science, Math, English, and I think Psych grades. This year all attempts are counted of ALL your core classes this includes any history, humanities, art, ect...

So look at it this way;

last year you applied with a 4.0 program GPA you had a retake of A&P I becuse you made a C and you made an A on your second attempt. They only looked at your A on your second attempt. so your program GPA was still a 4.0. So it wouldn't matter if you had a C in all your other classes, because they did not look at that as long as your TOTAL GPA was over 2.75.

So you could have a 4.0 program GPA and a 2.75 total GPA and still make it into nursing school.

Fast forward to this year;

you have all the same grades, except there is not a program GPA only a total GPA they are looking at all the classes you have taken up to this point. So say you have all the same classes as before, I am going to assume that you have all As except for the repeat in A&P and you have a 2.75

When they look at your overall GPA your C in A&P will be averaged with your A, and that all of the classes you have taken up to this point will count in that GPA no class is counted hight than another.

You only have to have 36 credit hours to appy. but they are looking at all 36 credit hours. If you are applying like me with 52 credit hours they are looking at my whole 52 hours.

Any C and any retake will count.

I hope this helps sometimes it is hard to get it across in writing. So I made my Advisor go over it step by step.

@mytwoboysmom thank you so much for clairfication. It made total sense!!:). I have a couple of questions. Where do you go to get the CNA certification?;since it is a requirement. Also for the math requirement if I took Math 1111 would this satisfy the math section?I got confused when it said AND. Did you find out what do you have to do for the writting session as well? Thanks for your feedback.

@AshBrock 1091 I know everyone says try your best not to get C's in your science classes. However how do schools look at the C's?For example if I made a B in my chemistry lab but a C in the lecture are they focusing more on the lecture than lab?I always tell my friends even if you made a C some schools are very flexiable and will still take you in. Just apply to as many schools as you can.

Mytwoboysmom thanks! That totally clears it up! You're so helpful. I want to eventually go talk to one of the advisors to see where I stand...

Well @jonesel9, I'll be a transfer coming from Ga State, and Ga State counts the lab AND the lecture as one whole class. For instance in anatomy 2, my lab grade was an 85 but I didn't do well on y lecture final so my overall grade was a C. Idk how anyone else does it... The only lecture that's counted differently from lab is micro. Well at Ga State.

@AshBrock1091 okay thank you for informing me how Ga State looks at it. I am applying to Ga State,do you like it?Have you applied to their nursing program? This is the samething that happened to me with chemistry!!!:).I made a 85 in lab and didn't do well on final so got a C in lecture.Wow what a match lol. So since they count it as a whole they consider your whole grade for ap 2 as a C or?

Jonesel9,

look up GA CNA training. you will get a lot of hits. there are two in Douglasville one in austell one in mableton. there are a lot of programs to check into. most are 3-5 weeks long most also haave day or evening classes. Those were just the ones close to me. They run about 550.00 and 780.00
