Northside Hospital ER Nurse Residency

Hi everyone,

I am graduating May 2018, and was looking into the New Grad Residency at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. I have heard it is a very respectable hospital and want to know more about their residency program. How is the interview process like? How is orientation for new grads? Do you like your co-workers? What do you like about working at Northside (if you do)? Any information that you think would be helpful, please let me know.

I am in love with emergency nursing and I honestly don't know what I would do if I do not get a job in the ER at any of the hospitals I have applied to.

Hey! I'm also looking into residencies in ATL. This summer I did a TON of research on almost all ATL has to offer including Northside. What I found was pretty bad, so I just recommend looking into their program before committing. I will admit that in some reviews I couldn't discern whether the person was speaking about the New Grad program or another residency-like program Northiside has for experienced nurses. However, in some of the reviews, people spoke about forfeiting the contract just to get out of the program.

I have no agenda except a heads up! New grads have to look out for eachother :) Goodluck!

Hey just wanted to put my two cents in since I'm starting my new grad residency at northside in atlanta next month! As far as the interviews go they are different compared to what I've done before. There were four of us interviewing total and they let us have lunch with all of the managers on the floor we were interviewing for. It gave us an opportunity to meet them and ask as many questions as possible. When lunch was over they called us one at a time to start our interviews. They each ask you a scenario based question. Its wasnt bad at all. I completely fumbled one question and I'm still starting. We also got a tour of the hospital afterwards.

As for the other questions I can't answer since I haven't started yet but I will try to update after I do. I hope I helped.

What department did you get a job in? Also, what kind of questions did they ask you? How long did they take to get back to you for an interview? Lastly, did you have any work experience in the hospital prior to now? Thanks so much!

I got hired on general medicine floor which there are a bunch of depending on specialty like cardiac or ortho. I was asked questions like when have I made a mistake and how did I correct it, why nursing, give a time dealing with a disgruntled patient and how you handled it. Questions like that. I heard back from them later that same day and that's when I accepted my position! Talk about fast response time. I am also a new grad so I had no hospital experience outside of clinical required in nursing school. Hope this helps.

The ask situational questions, example: tell us about a time you provided exceptional customer service. They asked me about 15-20 questions. I got an offer three hours later. It was a panel interview but very relaxed.

How would you rate your experience with Northside's Residency so far? I am considering applying for the NICU residency and some of the comments I've read are a bit disheartening.
