Georgia Baptist

Published

I'll be a senior this coming school year. I've been doing a lot of research lately on GA colleges and their nursing programs. I think i've pretty much made my decision as to which schools i'll apply to next year.

I'm considering: GA Southern, Brenau, NGCSU, Kennesaw, Columbus and GA Baptist.

I've heard great things about GA Baptist, and would love to go there. But, i would like to know, how is the social life there? they dont have any sororities or frats (that's what it says on fastweb.com), and it is a small Baptist school, just for nursing. But, gbcn IS in (or close to) ATL, so i guess that's good, social wise.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not gonna party all the time. I definitely want to do well, so i plan on studying a lot, cuz there's SO much to learn in nursing.

But, i would like to have somewhat of a normal college social life while i'm there-not too much to ask, right? :p

I was considering GA State, but from what i've read on here, it seems their nursing program isn't too great...

Just to let ya know, i plan on getting my RN/BSN, and i would loooove to work in NICU.

Any info about gbcn would be great. Thanks!

NCLEX SCORES http://www.sos.state.ga.us/acrobat/ExamBoards/RN/schools.pdf

APPROVED SCHOOLS http://www.sos.state.ga.us/plb/rn/NCLEX-RN.pdf

you probably have these websites. i keep bouncing from one to the other trying to figure out which schools are which -- initials on one page and names w/addresses on the other.

i've looked at some GA schools, primarly for cost and location.

CSU, Gordon, GA Southwestern, MCG, and GBC all have pretty good NCLEX pass stats.

The one that really caught my eye was MCG since they have a MSN in Gerontology, but their pass avg is low 90's and last year was mid 80's. Do you know anything about that one? CSU has a great pass rate, and Georgia Southern is 100% (only 2 students). What do you think of any of these??? Being from WV&TX, i don't know too much about schools in the south, just the ones that make the news.

pass rate at GBC is good, in the low 90's. at my age, i'd go for the more conservative atmosphere! but nuns in a Baptist school ... not possible

do you think i'm putting too much emphasis on the NCLEX pass rates?? (experienced opinions welcomed too!) i would hate to invest time & money only to not be well-prepared.

good luck.

Brenau has some prettly low stats.

I'm a male GBC student and I cant say enough about the program. They have an excellent staff, most of them have 20 yrs. or more experience, and know how to teach at all levels. Let me know if you have any question as I will be glad to help.

I'm in my first semester at Gordon College and loving it. It's an ADN program and I plan on going into an RN to MSN program later. The teachers are great lectures, and are very optimistic. Our pass rate right now is 95%. (You can never put too much emphasis on pass rates) Pass rate's is one of the most important qualifications in deciding on which nursing programs to apply. It doesn't help you if you pass the program but can't pass the NCLEX b/c the program didn't teach you the things you needed to know in order to pass. I was enrolled in Georgia Perimeter College's Nursing Program last fall and asked them about their pass rate(which I couldn't find anywhere) It was like it was a big secret. Needless to say I withdrew at midterm and applied to Gordon. Turns out they were just trying to hide how horrible their program is b/c the pass rate was very low. Good luck in your decsion. I hope everything works out for ya'll!!!!!!!!!!!!

I commend you all on checking the NCLEX scores prior to choosing a college.

I am thinking of ditching my current career and going into nursing:

I have a couple of questions:

Are you eligible for a Hope scholarship at GBC or does that apply to only public schools?

Has anyone looked into the one year accelerated BSN programs? Any ino that you can pass along?

Is it

dhudgens,

You are eligible for the hope scholarship as I have it myself.

I currently go to GBN also. Believe me there are no nuns there. Faculty are always available and are more than willing to meet your needs. As far as cost it is expensive becuase it is a private school but like the old saying goes you get what you pay for. The hope scholarship is only $3000 maximum versus all tuition paid for at a public school. That kinda sucks but hey it helps. Also, the campus is really beautiful and its spacious. If anyone wants to apply there i recommend that you try to get a tour or visit the campus.
