Georgetown U Accelerated BSN - Change in Pre-Reqs?

Published

Is it just me or did Georgetown just change it pre-req structure for the Accelerated BSN? It looks like they added more requirements and to apply I may have to take 2 more clasees. Since it's a Jesuit University, they want you to have some religion or ethics classes but they included in a section with Nutrition and Growth and Development and you had to fulfill 5. Now it looks like you have to have 7 and they removed a Research Methods class option that I had and added something else. I already have my pre-req plan pretty much laid out to apply for Spring '10 and this may make Georgetown a little difficult for me. Anyone one else notice the change or have it affect the pre-reqs they were planning to take?

One of my other choices is UMD Baltimore but I have heard so many mixed things about the CNL program and although I could do the Traditional BSN, I was trying for a 16 month or less program. It seems those are only offered at the private schools with excessive tuition rates (hello JHU!)

Anyone have any thoughts?

(I have a bachelors from UMD-CP in psychology and crim.just. Graduated in 2003. Currently in NYC but looking possibly to move back. Same deal in NYC...Most accelerated programs are at private institution (Columbia, NYU, Pace) and will put you back a cool $60K min.

JLSELD,

I've been admitted for Fall 2009 - and they did mention they did change it up a bit in our interview. We were the last cohort going by the older prerequisite list (2 categories of prereqs). Instead of 2 categories, there are now 3 categories. You need to complete all of the prerequisite courses from Group 1 & 2 before the program - and 5 courses from cat 3.

Category 1 (all with labs, 4 credits, B- or higher needed)

1. Human Anatomy and Physiology I

2. Human Anatomy and Physiology II

3. Chemistry

4. Microbiology

Category 2 (3 credits, C or higher needed)

5. Abnormal Psychology

6. Statistics

Category 3 (3 credits, C or higher needed)

English A

English B

Theology/Religion A

Theology/Religion B

Philosophy

Ethics

Human Nutrition

Human Growth & Development

Research Methods (2 credits)

Health Care Delivery Systems (2 credits)

The rest of the Cat 3 classes that you wont have completed before the program will be incorporated into your program.

Also, keep in mind if you plan on doing the international health certificate, you should have 8 of the Cat 3 classes finished (I wish I knew this beforehand - I really wanted to pursue this, but am ONE class short of being able to pursue the certificate, and it isnt worth staying an extra semester for 1 class!)

Hope this helps!

Hi thanks so much. I actually don't think I am as far behind as I thought. I dont know anything about the international health cert. though. Can you tell me why you chose Georgetown? What made you pick the program? Are you a part of the scholarship program with WHC? That's one strong reason for me applying is the possibility of that scholarship to help with tuition. How is the school's financial aid as well? Thanks for any feedback and good luck!
