George Mason University ABSN Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

I didn't see an application/acceptance thread for the George Mason University ABSN program for Fall 2021.

Has anyone heard anything yet from admissions? I figured I'd shoot this post out there in hopes of connecting with other applicants 🙂

Thanks in advance!

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted! What were your stats when you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected? I am interested in applying but I am worried about my stats.

Hello! I currently go to Mason and I'm applying this December for the ABSN. I got a C in A&P but all of my other classes are A's and B's. I work in the hospital as an EDTech. I'm BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified. I've shadowed all kinds of nurses. Do you guys think I have a good chance getting accepted? I'm super nervous!

It’s really hard to say.  I know they look at core sciences more heavily.  I had A’s & B+ in my science prerequisites but a C+ in stats.  I got waitlisted but then accepted.  You have a good background in healthcare so that will speak volumes.  This is such a fast paced intense program.  Good luck!

Thank you so much for sharing ! Did you have a healthcare background?

I was a labor doula … so… sort of but not like what you do.  There were others I the program I know with no healthcare background.

Oh wow ! I have some hope then ! Im super nervous I can’t wait to apply! But I feel like despite everything I have im not going get in :,(

Stay positive!  And then if you get in, celebrate but then… remember stay positive no. Matter. What!  It’s a tough program!  But worth getting it over with in 12 months!  Lots of frustrating moments with the timelines and delays but apparently it’s not just this program … it’s due to shortages of instructors all over.  Tough times.
best of luck!

Hi everyone! I’m applying to at ASBN at GMU for the FALL 2022 cohort. I’m so nervous.
So we have to do 2 separate applications (for GM and for Nursing). How important is the application to GM? Is it part of the evaluation or just for getting the G number? It says optional personal essay and recommendation letters. I don’t know how much work I should put in for that GM application. Can someone help please? Thank you

Hi, You have to do the Mason general application first to get a G number.  Getting into Mason itself is not difficult as a second degree student.  I did the essay and recommendation letters just because the nursing school is super competitive and I didn’t want to take chances.  I’m actually not sure who looks at what.  Most schools require recommendations and a short essay so I’d do it.  Good luck!  (Also I’d recommend doing a nursing bootcamp type program online to get familiar with medical terminology, medical math, and do a good review of electrolytes  and ABGs do you can hit the ground running in Patho… there is no easing into it… you get thrown in the deep end.)

Thank you @Sharzie35! I really appreciate your input.
I heard it’s a very intense program. I just took A&P last year so those are fresh “enough” (hopefully). Definitely will have to review chem, math and other things you mentioned. I often use those videos on Youtube channels. Which site did you use?

How do you think my stats look? My prerequisites GPA is 4.0. Completed anatomy 1&2, ethics, nutrition, psy, and Microbiology. I’m taking statistics in the Spring because Mason doesn’t accept the one from my old degree.

I’m very new to health care, almost no experience. Except since Summer I started to do part time medical interpreter.

It is a super tough program. I completed my first bachelor's in 1994, so I'm kinda the granny of the group ;) My accounting/business degree was a cake walk by comparison. I took my prerequisites at NVCC last year and had a 4.0. I also have 12 years of experience as a healthcare provider. Even with that, I'm not a 4.0 in nursing school (probably 3.5, but we'll see how this fall's final grades shake out). Like many of my classmates, I'm spending well over 40 hours per week on school, plus working full-time, so it is a challenge. Definitely brush up on ABGs and hormones. For med math, they really don't give you much instruction at Mason, so you're pretty much on your own there. That one kinda caught me by surprise. Be ready to spend the first couple of weeks feeling like you're drowning. Invest time in organizing your schoolwork so you don't miss deadlines. It is a lot to keep track of.
