According to the FAQ of the NCSBN website, the NCLEX will be moving toward using primarily generic medication names because brand names can and do change. It would benefit you to know all medications by their generic names, but personally I'd keep learning brand names just for ease of identification. Patients rarely know the generic names of their drugs, and will tell you they take Brand X. You'll want to know what that is!
As for the exam, until the NCSBN states that it ONLY uses generic, I'd go with their current information, that it's primarily generic.

somebody told me nclex gives only generic names? Is it true in the exam they only give generic or brand names? Can someone please help me out?
