Which drug cards are best

I bought med cards and were really hassled by them after my first semester. First semester if we didn't have med cards we had to write ones from a med book, so it was easier to not have to make a card just study one. But then in the rest of my semesters it was a huge inconvinience to have to take them out and put them back and lug with me to clinicals. I wish I would have just gotten a "pocket sized" drug book that a lot of my class mates bought.......

I bought 4x6 index cards and made my own. It takes more time, but it really forces you to look at what drugs your patient is on. It makes it SO worth it ... at least to me.

When we are at the Pixus and the instructor starts asking "What's that drug for? What lab values do you need to check for it?" you are at least slightly prepared. (Some of this stuff actually sinks in even when you stay up till 3am putting all the info on those cards!!) Also, when the instructors see that you have homemade cards they don't question you quite as much, because they KNOW you've taken the time to look it up, instead of just pulling them from your pre-printed stack!

It's definately worth the investment of your time if nothing else than to cut down on teacher harrassment!! LOL.

As for organizing them: I keep them all in a little file box. I store them alphabetically and re-use them.

I had Davis' Drug Guide when I was in school. It has a disk with it that has pre-made drug cards that you can print off. this dik allows you to delete info that you do not need; you can customize the card to meet your own needs. It was a real time saver, and life saver!!!

I agree! This disk is great! It really is a time saver - even just to save time LOOKING up drugs! Only thing is it's got about 300 of the most commonly prescribed drugs, so you can't rely on it 100% - keep the book close by! :)
