Where to Start

  1. I am currently taking my prereq's for nursing school and I would like to be able to get some experience now, but I find it nearly impossible to find a place that will take the time to even look at my resume, since I am not licensed right now. Any suggestions on how I could get my foot in the door? Thanks

volunteer in a department you are interested in.. yea there's no money but most places only require you to work like one day a week so you could get another job if you need one.

i also worked in the doctors' offices. you learn some terminology, but better yet, it looks good on a resume that you have worked in a hospital.

most hospitals have patient transporters and you dont need any experience for that.

Apply for a reception or HUC position, that's how I got my foot in the door.

Since TLAs differ from place to place, could you explain what a HUC is and what the letters stand for?

PRN pharmacy courier sounds good too.

    Try out volunteer work.
I'm a pre nursing student as well, and it sure looks good on the application.
And it opens the door to jobs available in the future.

Look online at some of the big hospitals in your area and look for patient care technician jobs(they may be called something different in your area) and apply online, say in your online app. that you are in school, currently taking pre-reques for the nursing program at your school, that will stand out and give them a reason to look into application a little more-imo!
