Starting first nursing job in 1 week.

And I am petrified. In school we assessed then documented before meds. I hear that in the "real world" you assess (if a problem deal with it) then do meds then document when all is settled (or you fit it in.) What is the flow? Also I have one friend who graduated with me and she says she hates floor nursing, anyone here ever start floor nursing and not like it? What do DX offices pay? Where else can you really go to make a living?

From what I have seen in practice is alot of the RNs tend to lump alot of stuff together and then assess when they find the time. This leads to improper charting sometimes as you cant recall EVERYTHING. We are only human. The sad truth is that sometimes you just simply DONT have the time you need to sit down and chart.

Just do your best, get into the flow of things and in time youll develop youre style of time management.

I hate floor nursing. I mean you either like it or you don't just like anything. I work in an ICU which I love. All the RNs have 1-2 patients each and that is it. They do excellent charting and we do a full assessment every 2-4 hours and also prn because of the complexity of our patients we are really constantly assessing them everytime we step into the room. ALL the nurses I work with love it and that is where I plan to stay when I graduate next year as well. You just have to find what you enjoy :)

You can make good money in nursing if your willing to work. I know RN making a crap load of money and some are happy just working their shifts and going home, it just depends on what you want to do. Some work an extra 12 hours shift a week for $500+, I know a lot of RNs who also work per diem at other hospitals making good money per hour.
