I am a nursing student in Philly and i am moving to San Diego after graduation (May 2003). I know of a few hospitals in San Diego like Scripps and UCSD to send my resume to, but I am looking for more info from anyone living in the area. Any info would be wonderful. Thanks.

Hey! That's my neck of the woods!!

OK area hospitals:

Sharp Healthcare:

*Sharp Memorial

*Sharp Grossmont

*Sharp Chula Vista

*Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women

*Sharp Mesa Vista (pysch hosp)

Scripps:

*Memorial

*Green

*Scripps Mercy

UCSD Medical Center

Palomar/Pomerado Healthcare

Kaiser Permanente

I'm not sure if there are more...probably are....I am personally partial to Sharp Healthcare (used to work there, mother worked there, grandmother worked there). I have a friend who works in HR at Palomar/Pomerado let me know if you need anything else! :)

Specializes in NICU, Infection Control.

I spent 34 years working @ UCSD/Hillcrest (there's another one in LaJolla), ~ 22 in NICU.

MAKE SURE wherever you go and whatever unit you decide to work on has an EXCELLENT orientation/preceptor program. It is absolutely critical that new nurses get a good start!!!

Tri-city is also in San diego. Maybe it was intentianlly left off the list.

Thanks for all the San Diego Hospital info. And yes an excellent preceptorship/orientaion I believe is key for a new grad, but how does one know which preceptorship/orientation is the best? Is it based on the length of the program? Anyway, thanks for all the helpful responses.

nope...not intentionally left off...just listing those that popped into my head...sorry, no offense?!?!

Have you looked at their websites to compare their programs? I think the most important thing in an orientation is flexibility, as well as length of time and formal class work in addition to the clinical.

I got their websites from http://www.hospitalsoup.com and clicking on US hospitals, then putting in San Diego.
