I want to go into L & D. I can't wait to be a part of such a special part of a woman's life. I want to be able to offer the support and care needed during this wonderful time. I know that their will be times when the outcome isn't as great, sometimes that's just how things go. I do know that that will be the time in my career as a nurse that I will have to really dig deep down inside myself to offer the best care possible.

I know a lot of my classmates LOVE OB. I liked the rotation but I'm not sure I could do it every day.
One of my best nursey buddies, Julie, cries at every delivery. Poor thing. She'll be in tears every day of her professional career.
I like emergency/trauma stuff, but I have no interest in caring for adults. Weird?

As of now, I vote for Oncology.
I am due to start the nursing program in the Fall and haven't done clinicals yet. I have worked as a Mental Health Worker in a state hospital in Texas. (I loved it, but the older I get, the less I think my body will take working with combative patients.)
Peds Oncology sounds ideal for me!
My second choice would be NICU.
This coming from me?? I am the one who doesn't like many children. I was raised military style (military dad) and believe children should be WELL BEHAVED! Which is rare these days.
Maybe because..... Onocology deals with children who have a right to be angry and NICU because........ well, they can't talk back.
Who knows?
Good luck to all!!! WE NEED IT!
I chose Adult Critical Care. This is really all I've ever been interested in. I have thought about other specialties, but none seriously, and I think adult critical care is where my heart is. I like both Trauma and Cardiothoracic Critical Care, but I'm really leaning more towards Cardiothoracic.
I will graduate spring 2004. Long way off! I work as a tech in a CT ICU right now and I really enjoy the environment. I knew after my first day at work that it was where I want to work as a nurse.
BTW, two other favorite quotes of mine are: "There are no stupid questions, but there are a lot of inquisitive idiots" and "It may be the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others." I have found these to be VERY true! :roll

Ok I know everyone asks this periodically, but nobody has for awhile, and I know the student nurses in my group keep changing their minds! Its interesting how many people want to go into ER and trauma these days (I wonder if the media has anything to do with that?).
I'd like to see the responses to this!

Ok, I know there are more fields to nursing than this, but I could only choose 10.
Its multiple choice... if you need to choose more than one.
I get the first vote!
