for those of you in a diploma or ad school, do they have a pharmacology course? would you find it helpful? if you do have one, how is it structured?

My CC offers a pharm. course only in the summers. It is taught by one of the nursing instructors who is a whiz at pharm. I have not taken it but I heard it is an excellent course. It is offered for 10 weeks right after the end of Spring semester and is open to first year students and students who graduated in the spring but may want to take it in preparation for the NCLEX. I am unable to take it this summer because of an externship but I think I will definately take it next summer, hopefully after I graduate.

I am in a 4 year BSN school. Currently in Pharmacology. When the semester started, our teacher told us she "taught it differently." Compared to what friends who are nurses have told me, she sure does. But, it is the MOST BENEFICIAL class I am in or have taken so far. WOW!! I love it and it is my favorite. I personally cannot imagine becoming a nurse and not taking Pharm. Don't get me wrong, it is hard, hard, hard. But, I WOULD NOT practice myself as a nurse without it....

I am in a 2 year diploma program and we had our pharmacology course last year (at the end of year 1).
I did find it helpful and find we need that knowlegde of drugs in year 2 courses like maintenance and restoration.
It really helps during clinical, when we are researching our clients. Saves time if you know the classification already.
