NYU Accelerated BSN Fall 2010

Hi everyone!

I just received my acceptance letter to NYU's Accelerated BSN program for Fall 2010. I just wanted to reach out to other accepted students so I thought I'd start a thread! I haven't decided whether or not to accept the offer because of $, relocation, and other things. I have so many questions that I don't know where to start but feel free to share your thoughts!

Thanks! I am excited about going to NYU and waiting on a few more schools. I believe my nursing pre-req gpa was a 3.5. I took my classes at a few places in CA because it was hard to get into the classes. I sent in my application in the middle of Feb. It took a long time for them to review my application. I actually called two weeks ago and they told me the same thing-to wait until the end of May. So for all of you guys waiting, you still have a good chance. Good luck!!

Also, does anyone have suggestions in regards to financial aid, scholarships, and where to live?? Any suggestions would be great.

It seems you got your app way ahead of the March 1st deadline. My app was complete a little over a wk after the March 1st priority deadline.

Just curious, where did you do your undergrad? I'm from Nor Cal too but went to undergrad in So Cal.

I finished my app early, however, they sent me an e-mail later and asked for me to send in pre-req verification after the March 1 deadline and i faxed that in afterwards.. I went to UC Davis. Where did you go to school? Also, did you apply to other schools or just NYU?

Hi, I sent a pre-req verification (fax'd). I went to UC D for nearly two yrs and then transferred to UCLA. This is a second career option for me so I'm at least 5 yrs old than you if you just go out of undergrad. Did you just graduate?

NYU is my first pick. Didnt prioritze Columbia nor UCSF b/c I knew that it would be too rigorous for me and I dont have a medical background.

What's your background?

You def have the background. I was Bio Anthro and Poli Sci. You'll have a great experience at NYU but yea it is expensive.

I havent applied yet to any Cal State or other programs. NYU was like my 1st choice b/c I am familiar with the area and took classes at NYU Steinhardt. What was your back-up just in case? Do you recommend any other nursing programs in CA for me to look into? Pls let me know

I'm in agreement with SunshineCali girl! So incredibly expensive. Does anyone know how many people receive the Hillman scholarship or have any advice on how to get it? Any advice would be helpful!

Be advised that the Hillman Scholarship award may effect your eligibility for other financial aid. Also for all not planning to live on campus I would advise you to come to the city first before school because the area NYU is located is very pricey.

One of my friends said that NYU is not very generous when it comes to financial aid packages and she got grants, federal loans and still had to take out a private loan. It was one of the reasons I didn't apply to the program. The financial aid I receive for the year at the school I currently attend (which is also expensive) would only pay about one semester at NYU.

Congrats to all of you!! I am still debating whether I should go to NYU and waiting to see if I get into Hunter. Do you know how many applicants NYU has accepted for this fall?

After talking with admissions and the college of nursing - they accept between 120-130 students for the fall. I was also told that they were not sure how many they were definitely going to accept since the college grows each semester. As for the Hillman Scholarships, I was told they only give out nine and it's very competitive to receive one.

Is anyone else concerned about the cost of NYU versus other schools? The financial aid package I was offered doesn't really make a dent in the $70,000 tuition cost. Has anyone else had a hard time getting a hold of people to ask questions? I feel like when I finally do get through on the phone they sound agitated and like it's a huge deal for them to answer a question about a deposit.

I really liked NYU and I was completely ready to move to NYC but now with the cost, large class size and lack of assistance I'm starting to have second thoughts. Anyone else experiencing this?

And the NCLEX pass rate is 91%...I feel like for the tuition and name brand they offer it should be higher? Maybe it's just me!

My school actually has the highest pass rate in the state LOL and it's nowhere near prestigious, in fact it's been dogged on this site a few times. Anyway though, no one else mentioned which you did was the large class size. I don't really like that. They have lecture classes with over 100 people for nursing, how do you learn, how would the professor even know who you were.

Nine people for the scholarship? Seriously??? With about 120 students, it's crazy. How do people afford this school lol.
