Is anyone attending the NSNA Convention that is being held in Philadelphia in April? Has anyone ever attended a NSNA conference before? If so, how was it? What did you learn at the conference? Would you suggest that other students attend?
I would love to hear everyone's opinion.
Thanks a bunch!! :roll

Attended NSNA convention in 1982 in Minniapollis....helped open my eyes wide to the nursing profession and paved the way to ANA and advocacy. Great networking posibilities. Come visit Philly...if work permits I hope to be there.

Well, I cannot afford to go to philly this year:o Would like to have gone but there are also several other reasons besides money. However, I heard a rumor that for 2003 the NSNA convention is coming to Kansas City, Missouri and that is where I live. So I will defintely plan on attending that one if they are coming to Kansas city and that will be in my senior year. I feel that the convention is a wonderful way to get out and network. I know a couple of people who went to the one in Nashville last year and they said it was really neat.
No one else out there is going to the convention???

We are sending 18 students in all. I have not attended one before but a few people that are going have and the enjoyed it. Philly is in one area of the country I have never been to so hopeful the weather will be nice and I can check at a few places as well (like the stature from rocky).

Dear Betty,
I will be attending NSNA convention in Philly. I am among 24 others as well as two advisors who will be there representing our school. This will be the first time attenting for myself, however, several from our school attended convention in Nashville last year and thought it was very beneficial!

I have friends who went as delegates for our chapter...They had a ball, got all kinds of information, brought us back lots of goodies. If you have the opportunity to go,take advantage of it.
I did go to our state convention, would highly recommend attending that as well if you have the opportunity. Registration was pretty cheap, there were reps from a lot of different employers giving out information about their new grad programs, publishers presenting studyguides, scrubs and equipment for sale, auction and raffles, etc. They had a variety of workshops ranging from NCLEX to Disaster Nursing that were free with registration. We all had a great time. We all got study guides very cheap, Publishers were there trying to promote their materials you could get any book for $10 or 3 for $20 (I got a drug guide and two NCLEX review books).
If you can, go and bring friends.

franklin institute (has omnimax theater) + atwater kent museum my favorites
art museum-is location where rocky was filmed going up the steps in philadelphia and has spectacular views; took 3 boys 12-14 to art museum and even they impressed; rocky's statue is now located at the first union center (stadium) in south philadelphia (could take the broad street subway south to see statue but might be disappointed).
take the philadelphia's downtown visitor shuttle--purple van known as philly phlash to get to all the major sites--bus leaves outside convention center every 10 minutes.
cost: phlash fare -- $4.00/all day. runs 10am-6pm /7days
(memorial day to labor day runs 10am-12mn).
effective march 19, 2000 a new familypass at a cost of $10.00 will be available for purchase offering a family of up to five people (three members must be less than 18 years of age) to ride phlash all day.

Hi!
I'm interested in learning more about this convention. I know nothing about it, nor whether it would be suited for me. I'm not "into" nursing yet, just finishing my pre-reqs and just received my acceptance to Jefferson (where I will most likely start in June). Is this convention something that would benefit a soon-to-be-student? Oh, and I live in Philly, so no problem getting there. anyone with info? I'd like to learn more!
thanks
Louise
