Level of education required for Head Nurse...

I "think" I know the answer to this, but want to know for sure...what type of degree is necessary to even have the opportunity to become a Head Nurse in the future??? I think you have to at the very least have your bachelors, but wanted to see what everyone else had to say!!! Thanks!!!! :D

Currently, there are still some hospitals that will not require a BSN. However, more and more hosptitals are requiring the BSN. Also, the Magnet Recognition Programs will require that a hospital have at least 75% of its managers with BSN's or higher starting in 2010. In 2013, that standard will be raised to require 100% of the nurse managers to have at least a BSN. They encourage managers to get an MSN and will probably reqeuire that at some point in the future.

The term "head nurse" is not used anymore. There are charge nurses, nursing supervisors, nurse managers, nurse administrators, and Chief Nursing Officers.

There were some job postings that used that term...I figured they were all the same type of position, but just wanted to verify...
