I NEED HELP!!! With the Skeletal System..

:confused: Hello I'm tammy and a spn. We have started the skeletal system and it has just thrown me for a loop.. having trouble with the work sheet's that she has given us and the A&P book we have doesn't have alot in it.. Does anyone know of any web sites that might help or any suggestions... I work on it for 5-6 hr's a night and just not getting it.... Thank's ahead of time

Have you tried touching your bones while you are studying? I always put them in an order that makes sense to me (shoulder to fingers/ hip to toes), follow the bones down my arm and repeat it as many times as I have to until I remember it. You could also try it with a study partner or a small skeleton that you can buy at the science store at most malls.

When I learned the joints, I made them from sculpey clay and played with them until I learned names, actions, etc.

Do you know how you learn - visual, auditory or kinesthetic? I have been labeled a kinesthetic learner. I have to have my hands on it to learn it completely. My best friend is a visual learner, she does great with diagrams. Good Luck, it will get easier.

:p Feeling alot better about this anatomy thing.. I have tryed the websites and they seem to help and I'm going to take the suggestion about touching the bones and working in one section at a time. YOu all have been a great help and I know where to get answer's if I have a problem.. I'm sure I will.. Your a great support system and I love ya all even though we have never met.. Will talk to everyone soon. My first day of real clinical is friday will let ya know how that goes.. and my test on skeletal is on tuesday will let ya know how that goes.

If you are having problems with remembering lists, you should try something called mnemonics. It has worked wonders for me so far. I was having a hard time remembering the systems of the body until I took the first letter of each word and made a sentance. It is silly, but here it is- I saw many red cats living in New England until Rooster Day. I have a picture in my mind of all of these red cats running around cobble stone streets in New England until people start putting up signs for a local holiday known as Rooster Day. As soon as the cats see the roosters start to arrive, they all leave town. I told you it was silly. Anyways, the systems are, in order according to the letters in the sentance, Integumentary, Skeletal, Muscular, Reproductive, Cardiovascular, Lymphatic and Immune, Nervous, Endocrine, Urinary, Respiratory, and Digestive. As soon as I made up the sentance, I had the list memorized. The only other one I have made up so far it to think of the word "fods" for the functions of the simple squamous epithelial tissues. The word "fod" refers to foreign object debris, a navy term. I was in the navy when I was younger. I had to add an s, but it works for me. The functions are filtration, osmosis, diffusion, and secretion in serous membranes. I realize you all probably know these things, but I am just showing that with just the word and the sentance, I could remember both lists without looking at my notes. You all just have to take my word for it that I didn't cheat. You just have to be creative and think of words and sentances that form a visual image in your mind. Hope this helps.

CHECK OUT YOUR LIBRARY ON CAMPUS. THEY SHOULD HAVE A SECTION OF OLD ANATOMY BOOKS. MAYBE ONE OF THE OLD BOOKS WILL BE MORE HELPFUL. ALSO, I MADE UP STUPID SENTENCES FOR EACH BONE. GOOD LUCK:)

:D Thank you everyone. Today I took a quiz on the skeletal system and I got a 92. She gave us the skeleton and we had to label it. For got one question and labeled one wrong.. But alll your Idea's have really helped. Keep finger's crossed I take the final on wensday and then it's off to the Muscular System.. Keep finger's crossed and will let ya know how I do. I'm sure I'll be back when it comes to the muscles asking for more Idea's.. I am trying to make a web page and adding all the site you have given me so other people can get the same help. THank's again. Will talk to everyone later... Oh I'm going to try the sentence thing also.. never thought of that.. Everyone have a great day.
