This is the hardest thing I have ever had to write IN MY LIFE!!...My nursing application requires me to write why I should be considered for the nursing program, my concept of nursing, goals, and experience. Does this sound TOO CHEESY?????
My whole life I have had a passion for caring for others. Whether it was taking care of my ailing grandparents, picking up a child who had fallen, or just being a friend, I was there. I guess I have always longed to be a nurse, but never thought I had the brains or the courage to follow that path.
Being a stay at home mom for the last two years to my three daughters has given me the opportunity to step back and reflect on what it is that I want to do with my life. More than anything I want to be a nurse.
I long for the education and knowledge to be able to help others in need, and to be that bedside friend. Although I have no previous experience in the medical field, I believe that I have the capability and the desire to be the best nurse that I can be. I have grown a lot since the starry-eyed teenager college days from years ago. I am now prepared to do everything it takes to fulfill my dream.
I hope that you will accept my application for the Nursing Department at xxxx. I know that I will make a terrific nurse.
PLEASE DON'T LAUGH!!! I REALLY HATE WRITING ABOUT MYSELF. IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD LEAVE OUT BECAUSE IT SOUNDS TOO STUPID?:imbar
...and if your essay DOESN'T work for them, consider THIS.... (!)
" I want to be a nurse because there's a *&%#@!!! SHORTAGE out there, Dummy! Which means YOUR mother or grandchild may NEED me in the future, so quit messing with the sincere students by having them waste time writing these silly essays which serve no purpose whatsoever !" (just kidding, Girl!)

I know one nursing school in my area that requires you to write a TWO PAGE essay ON-SITE (everyone crammed into a little room on campus!) as to why you want to be a nurse! Actually I think they just do it to see if you can write an essay!
