Sigma Theta Tau, which I assume is the one you're talking about, is the only honor society for nursing and is international. You can always pay to be a member this year and if you don't get anything out of it, not pay next year. You are still a member, just an inactive one. At any time you can pay the membership due and become an active member again. That's what I've been told anyway.

I was invited to the nursing honors society and everyone says it's a big deal to join. I've even heard that some nurses have been turned away from graduate school (with fantastic GPAs) because they weren't a member... I do plan on going to graduate school at some point, but is this really necessary?
