I am in my 1st semester of the nursing program & at the end of this semester we have to take the HESI. I would like any tips/feedback you might have on this test. I can't afford to buy the study guides so I really don't know how to study for it. We have to take 2 one for fundamentals & one for pharm. mine are scheduled for Dec. 14th. Thanks for the help!

Hi,

We had to take the HESI to get into nursing schoool. Its not as bad as it sounds. All it really covers is basic anatomy, chemistry, math, reading comprehension, grammar, etc. I was scared at first but its not as bad as it seems. You can't really study for it, you just have to read the questions carefully and use your noggin. Hope this helps :) .

We had to take the HESI at the end of our first year and again before graduation- if we didn't do well our school made us show proof that we were signed up for an NCLEX review course before we could graduate. It's really not that bad. It should be based on your school's curriculum so you should do OK if you review lecture notes- even though it's a pain to take think of it as a really good way to know where you are- do you need to go back and relearn certain subjects before boards. I used NCLEX review books- but I don't think I ever bought any until I was studying for boards- our school library had a ton and let us check them out. They really do help get you in the right frame of mind to answer questions like those on boards. Good luck!

I've taken several of the HESI tests. They're suppose to be a good indicator of how you're doing with the material and how you'll eventually do on the NCLEX. Don't stress about it. I personally like taking them because they make me feel like I'm actually learning something! :rotfl:

Thanks I kinda thought it would be like a review over what we had already done. I just hope I score at least 850 or I will have to remediate over Christmas break. Thanks again crb613

We had to take a HESI at the end of first semester, at the end of Pharm, OB and Psych nursing, and one for medsurg at the end of third and fourth semesters.

It is just another test over the material you just learned for that class written in the NCLEX format. If you study for the final you should be learning what you need for the NCLEX too.
