Football pool anyone?

Okay, I was initially going to post this to "The Guys Club" thread, but then I checked myself realizing that this would be a good time to start changing the way I think about things since I'm going to be entering a profession dominated by women...Now, we all are going to be going to starting classes again soon with all the accompanying stress. I figured it would be kind of fun to start a little (or big) football pool amongst us as a way of blowing a little steam and creating a little camaraderie. I'm used to doing this in the office every fall but figured since I'm soon going to be leaving that environment I'd try something a little different. I know of a few sites that will allow us to create a private pool and run it online. Let me know if you're interested and let me hear any ideas you may have on the subject.

Okay, I'm going to sound like a stupid girley girl here, but I don't have the first idea what the heck a football pool is! Sorry! LOL :)

My bad, I should have explained what a football pool is:

Basically, a football pool consists of a group of people that compete either for just fun or $$$'s to see who's the best a picking winners in football games. There are several variations in play but a typical one is called Pick Em and every week you pick which pro football teams will win. If you pick correctly, you get one point. At the end of the season (17 weeks), the person that has picked the most correctly is the champ. ( It usually boils down to a combination of luck and skill since there are so many upsets and there are no longer any teams that just dominate week after week. ) Depending on the pool, you can have weekly winners as well. There are variations on this theme but in general that is how they work.

Why not, sounds like a great way to blow off steam during the long semester... I'm in. Alas, I will have to forego picking my Texans very often. (although word is they'll have one of the best secondaries in the league this year)

I'll do it! I LOVE football! I am a huge Vikings fan. I am actually more into football than my husband!

Heidi

Oooo...you've come to the right place. This girl was spoon-fed and raised on football (you see I'm from Nebraska, right?). But alas, I do prefer college ball so perhaps we could run an NFL *and* an NCAA pool??

And to Heidi - count my hubby and I in as fellow Vikings fans! :)

I am a Huge NCAA fan here. However, I love them Steelers.

Okay football fans,

I've created a Private Group called Allnurses NFL 2003 on Yahoo's Football Pickem site. For simplicity, it will be for-fun-only no-fee group (unless I get feedback to the contrary).

In order to join the group, just go to http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem, click the Sign Up Now! button and choose to Join a Private Group. Then, when prompted, enter the following information...

Group ID#: 16180

Password: allnurses

Yahoo will send you a confirmation with further details once you have completed the registration process.

The NFL season starts the week of September 4th, so you will need to have you first weeks picks entered by that time. I've set up the group to allow picks to be entered up to 5 minutes before kick-off time. This is a simple Pickem type pool - the person that picks the most winners during the week wins. Points are accumlated throughout the season. (There's also a twist called Confidence points that allows you to weigh you picks, if the majority of you are interested in this option I'll enable it. See the site for details.) If there is a tie after Sunday's games, then the Monday night game will be the tie-breaker. Checkout the site for details when you register. If you already have a yahoo ID you can use that to login or you can take a minute and create one. PM me if you have any specific questions or problems.

Great idea! I signed up and as of right now I am in first place! Well tied anyway. We'll see how long that lasts, lol.

I LOOOOOVE NCAA. Roll Tide!! I live in Norteast MS We are at the center of the SEC here. Lets also do a college pool

Okay,

By popular demand I've created a college pool for you NCAA fans.

In order to join the group, just go to http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/college, click the Sign Up Now! button and choose to Join a Private Group. Then, when prompted, enter the following information...

There's more info at the site regarding the format of play.
