Specializes in Med/Surg/Tele.

I think Fun hit it right. My instructor has us all paralyzed with fear. I know a lot of it, is what you make of it. I am trying really hard to learn as much as I can, I just know that it could be just a much better experience. We can't ask ANYONE for help, only her! that's right, don't ask any of the RNs, and definately not a tech, they are below you (her words) So...that really sux when we are in the process of learning!

I'm dealing with it ok, I didn't break down or anything I just kind of dread clinical day.

Pregnancy is great though...I have lot of energy still.

Just hang in there...I will tell that I WILL make a more concerted effort next semester to choose my CI very carefully. I wonder how you get to choose clinical for 2nd semester. Do you still draw a number for lottery, or is choosing based on your class rank? hmmm.... We have test 3 next week. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

Have a fabulous weekend!

I am sorry Spill, I know that your instructor has a bad reputation. Hang in there. The good news is that you (probably) won't have worse instructor in the future. Let us know who will be your choices next semester. Are you going to continue 2nd semester in the fall? I don't remember your due date.

Thanks guys for your encouragement.

I will continue onto 2nd semester. I'm due July 4! (I hope he comes a little earlier, so I can have more time at home with him, before I hit the grind again in the Fall.

Yang, good luck on Test #3, we had test 3, last week.

Only 2 more tests to go in Skills lab and lecture! Woo Hoo!

For 2nd semester clinical instructor you choose right after you pass the final in 1st semester. You're given an envelope with all of the available clinical instructors and then you mail that in within a given time and you find out in the following few weeks...I think I found out around June. They will let you know the day it will be posted. You put your clinical instructor choices in ranking order and then they randomly draw envelopes and put people together that way. I had Isa for 2nd semester and I looooooved her. Good luck on test 3! It won't be bad!!!

thank you, I will be getting your insight on the better choices, before I make a decision. You Rock Allison!

How did test 3 go for you all? Our class avg was a 78...I felt like it was our hardest test so far.

Specializes in ER.

Our test 3 is on Friday...hopefully it won't be too bad. It can't be alot worse than Test 2 (77 average after up to 10 points given to some people). We apparently have a couple that have failed 2 tests, but haven't dropped is the word going around. We'll see what happens after this test though.

A question for y'all -

I have my application in for NL/EC for the fall semester...Wish me luck - I'm expecting a yay/nay letter around April 15th. I work full-time and must continue to work full-time during nursing school since I'm single & a returning adult student. I know it will be very tough to balance work & school (luckily my parents & sister take care of my laundry, grocery shopping, honey-do's, etc). Can you please give me an idea of what your school schedule is? For example, I hear that you are involved with school everyday Monday - Friday, but some days may be just a 2 hour lecture where some clinical days are 12+ hours. I've also read where you have projects over Spring & Christmas breaks. Does this include summer? I'd also like to have an idea as to when I can squeeze in a mini-vacation! Just curious to see what I'm up against. Thanks for your help!

The actual school schedule is incredibly busy and erratic the first half of the semester (or it seemed to me), but that may be less so if you took the HPRS class. There is alot of study time outside of actual classes. I'm not one who normally has to study so long as I attend classes, but in order to pull A's, I have had to study ALOT. I'm working part time, mostly from home, and only on the weekends. I have a 6 yo daughter and tons of family support (sounds like you do to). It can be done, but be prepared to not have much else going on. We had plenty of studying to do over spring break. I can't speak for Christmas or summer yet since this is our first semester, but it seems from the upper classmen that those aren't sacred either. One did take a cruise over spring break, and I'm going on vacation over summer. Just have excellent time management and you can probably squeeze in a vacation. Good luck to you and let us know what happens!

I hope you work for a really flexible and understanding company. Yang wasn't joking when she said it was erratic! Things seemed to change from day to day.

At this point in the semester, we are on campus for 3 hours on Monday, and 6.5 on Fridays. We are in the hospital for 3 hours on Tuesday and 10 hours on Wednesday. We do not have any commitments on Thursday (so I work full time that day). I know other students who have two days a week with nothing scheduled, so it really depends. Also, travel time to and from is taking a big chunk of my time, even on those short days.

I haven't been studying as much as I should, and I have a high B (89) right now. I cannot decide if I'm happy to have my sanity and a B, or if I should go crazy studying and try for the A. Tough call for those grade who** ... err, uhm, tramp. :D

I work 30-40 hours a week, and most of it is from home (except for Thursday, where I go into the office).

Good luck to you!
