I am having some test taking skill issue or should I say critical thinking issues on my tests. This is a new issue since I started MedSurg(3rd semester, freshman yr) I know they stepped it up a bit but having issues processing the solid information and applying it critically. I am able to learn the disease process but can't "think like a nurse". Can u all help me out with what type of things do u ask yourself per question, what sort of thinking process? I know less invasive, safety of patients, positioning, cant delegate assessments, nursing process,ABCs, & Maslow. I am keep reading that and I know that but have difficulty processing that during a test. Any advice would be great.

So just to clarify, are you saying it is answering test questions correct that is giving you the most problems?

yes it always comes b/t 2 possible and having a problem pick the right one.

aw yes, remember this well....I know what you mean, here are a few tips I remember....try not to read soooo much into the answer. Look for key works like always, must, only, never....understand that each situation that you come into as a nurse is never so black and white, unless of course you talking about abc's... If the answers there have two similar, then usually they are ruled out. If the answers are opposites, then one is correct. Of course safety is always number one...what school are you in?? It will get easier, trust me. Now would be a good time to get a nclex book, maybe a book called nclex bullets may help you. sandy:)
