  1. I need to get myself organized. Does anyone have an example of an assessment sheet that they would like to share? I am looking for something that covers the basics that I can write on while I get report for my patients. Thanks
  2. I am persuing to be a lactation consultant on top of my RN. Are there any in the group? If so I have some questions........... The IBLCE is the only organization I can through? Wanted to take my Lactation Management Course through Breastfeeding Support Consultants Center for Lactation Consultants: Course 511:Lactation Consultant Exclusive Home Study.......have you heard anything of this course? How will I make my clinical hours ligimate, I do breastfeeding assistance daily at work, how do I document them and have them count? Also how long did it take you and how did you go about it? Thanks any info will help.
  3. I was just curious if anyone had an union come in and do great things for the nurses or an union came in and wasnt a good experience. I dont have any specifics on who is or if any are even coming, just curious about what other nurses had experienced with an union hospital. Thanks for your time everyone.
  4. They are speaking of a possibilty of bringing an union in my hospital. I am a very new nurse and curious if anyone can give me the positives and negatives of their prior experiences. I know this is not OB related but curious if it would be a benefit for an OB nurse. Thanks
  5. Has anyone debinded a book and regretted it? I think this is a great idea can't believe I never thought of it, but alittle worried about losing pages or ripping pages. Just wanted to hear both sides. Thanks
  6. I am entering my senior year of nursing school this fall. I have been a SAHM for about 13yrs and I have 4 kids total......13y,11y,6y,and 3y My best advice is to commit completely and the rest will fall into to place. Having a little boy going through terrible 2's has been so difficult but I am still staying a float. I dont get much sleep and I am in an excelerated program. my class started with 48 students and we are down to 28. So me the mom of 4 kids is hanging on strong. I believe that this life change will help my children and it is all worth the sacrifices we are going through. They ALL help out, support and believe in me. This is the hardest thing I have ever done and I am so proud for succeeded thus far. How you succeed......TIME management, ORGANIZE (household and schoolwork), and READ,READ READ!!!! You also need to dedicate one day to family only. I WILL graduate in May 2008! I WILL! Good luck in your journey!
  7. Yes Ohio Valley is a diploma program. It is full time but I have been taking classes through the years to relieve that schedule. i have 4 children and life is hectic. So I can only concentrate on nursing classes right. So got the other classes out of the way before I started. I chose that school because its small and I need that one on one. Good luck!
  8. I have a med-surg final in about 2 weeks. Do you all have any tips to help? Thanks Gwen
  9. I go to Ohio Valley General Hospital, School of Nursing
  10. I am a student in Pittsburgh finishing up my freshmen year. I have a question for the working RN's of Pittsburgh. Do you suggest specializing right away or working on Med-Surg for a few years for experience? I have another year to decide, just wanted some input and suggestions. Thank you!
  11. Thanks for all those sheet. They will be soo useful.
  12. I personally think that nursing school is just very time consuming. The information isnt difficult to understand but the amount of time given is not alot. I just keep thinking it is do able, there are nurses out there right? LOL It just takes alot of time and dedication and if your heart is in it you will get there. At least this is what I tell myself every morning, lol.
  13. Ok OK I am actually really sorry I asked this question. It was not intended to start a debate between everyone. To be honest before I read everyone's responses I thought the crammers were lazier and I see that I was wrong. Its just another learning style. I will say that I will do what I do best and thats study every night. I have 4 kids and a crazy schedule that does not allow for cramming because something might happen the night of the test, then where will I be. Thanks to everyone that answered my question and sorry for starting the debate. It is what it is, and I am what I am. I will work my hardest to do my best and thats all I can do. So if getting a 84 throughout gets me to the NCLEX then thats all I need. Thanks everyone!
  14. I study every night and every test I get the same grade 84. Sometimes I will get a A here and there but not a solid all the way through. I do all the readings, take notes,go over stuff every night. Then I here people say that they studied the night before a test and score a 96 or 98. It is getting kind of frustrating. I used to try to not worry about it and only worry about myself but its getting more and more difficult. What do you all do studying- cram or every night?
  15. This is what I do.....I smile and say "Thank you, you made my day." I am 31y and I am always questioned on my age especially when people find out I have 4 kids. They say "when did u start, where u 2 ?" I laugh and say "yes, I knew what I wanted early in life, a family. "They say I look 21-22y,even I have gotten teenager but I know that's exaggerated, lol. It used to bother me, but not anymore. To be honest I am flattered and I hope it will last for alittle while longer. Be professional, confident, and knowledgeable and people 's respect will follow. People always know when you really care no matter what age you are.
