"Nursing Student Strangles..."

  1. In reading the headlines...I glanced at the one above and thought it said "Nursing Student Strangles "Instructor"" but it actually said "Intruder." I had to laugh at myself. Thought some of you may have similar or better misreads to share. Lord knows humor is all that keeps me sane.

    In reading the headlines
I was hospitalized acutely once and a had a battle with the nurse that night. She wanted me up to the rest room. I wanted a bed pan bedside just in case since I had already waited 30 min x2 that day for the nurse to get to me. Add another 25 min to sit up (post op), dangle, and shuffle to the toilet and you're talking uncomfortable. Anyway, I won the bedpan war only because I threatened to page my doctor myself (I know, bad patient). The next day when my husband came to visit, he had the paper. And there was an article in there "Patient Shoots Nurse at Hospital." Seems like the patient had ended up having her hubby bring in a gun and she walked down to the nurse's station and took out her nurse. We started laughing uncontrollably because I had this mental picture of "honey, could you bring me a few things from home? I'll need my toothbrush, a few magazines, .357 Smith & Wesson, and my curling iron. Thanks."
Anyway, we cut the article out and taped it to the dry erase board in our room when we left...

There are more articles about nurses who kill their patients than the other way around......

I understand...I have up until clinicals always been the patient. Believe me, I will be a better nurse than the one that you had.

You found it funny that a nurse was shot and killed by a patient? Then you cut out the article and posted it for the nurse to see it?

Whoa. Consider yourself lucky you didn't wind up having a little chat with the police about how making terroristic threats just doesn't go over well in a hospital, and how "I was only joking" doesn't fly as an excuse.
