I'm just curious if anyone else has ever given a Z-track injection. I gave one many years ago in school and never forgot how cool it was, but I don't even know anyone else who has ever given one.:smokin:

I did give one when I was in nursing school. It was not bad. I do not give irritating medicines now so I have not done it since.:nuke:

I z-track all IM's and airlock them as well.

I just read a research article stating that the air lock is more effective at preventing complications than the Z track method.

I also Z-track and airlock all IM injections that I give in the hip.

What is an "airlock"? We were taught the Z-track method for all IMs, but I've never heard of an airlock....

When you pull up your med in the syringe, pull back a little more when the needle is out of the vial so that you have an air bubble in the xyringe. When you inject you push the air in too, and it forced the med a little farther into the tissues. Decreases the chances of the med leaking out.
