I use BD Insyte IV catheters. I never rotate to release he tip shield? I think many years ago I heard rumors about doing it but ???? it was dismissed by some people, never any FYI memos or nursing education flyers, etc.

I will start doing it now, but I am curious why? I have been inserting IV's, usually successfully, for many years without rotating? I haven't noticed others rotate their catheters?

I sent an email to BD, their reply was, "It is the responsibility of the user to use with caution."

Does anybody know why you are supposed to rotate to release the tip?

Sometimes it sticks and rotating is a way to overcome the issue. If you are not having an issue then do not worry about it.
